The Charter Fee includes the charter of the yacht with all its equipment in working order, tools, stores, cleaning materials, basic consumable stores for engine-room, deck and cabins etc.; the crew's wages, food; the insurance of the yacht for marine risk and third party claims and the crew for employer's liability.
The Charterer will be charged extra, at cost, for all other expenses. These will include fuel for the yacht, RIB or other tenders; food, wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks for the Charterer, other consumable stores, berthing dues and other harbour charges away from the yacht's own berth, including pilotage fees and charges for water and electricity taken from the shore, laundry, telephone, fax or telex via radio or Inmarsat, as well as the hire costs of any special equipment placed on board at the request of the Charterer. Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) In addition to the charter fee, you will also be asked to pay an APA of 25-30% of the charter fee to cover the expenses shown above. This is given to the yacht in cash prior to your charter to allow the captain to buy fuel and provision the yacht as per your demands. At the end of the charter, the captain will produce full accounts of all expenditure. You will either be refunded any money not used or asked to pay any additional costs not covered by the APA.
Meet the crew:
Captain Gareth Thorpe
Gareth has been a captain in the yachting industry since 1998, specialising specifically on sailing yachts. A passionate sailor who first learned his trade as a youngster on the Red Sea, he has sailed extensively throughout the Mediterranean, Northern France and Australia and has an exceptional ability to get you to the best anchorages. He joined ‘Shindela’ in 2011 to help complete the build and has remained onboard as her captain for 5 years, citing ‘Why would I leave such a stunning and capable boat’.
Gareth has also spent several seasons teaching wintersports, summers teaching sailing and windsurfing, and is a keen surfer and all round waterman. He is only too happy for guests to have a go at sailing ‘Shindela’ and learn the ropes of this beautiful yacht.
Stewardess Liz Pankratz Thorpe
Liz graduated from her own restaurant in the US to go sailing in 2006. She has become an invaluable asset to the super yacht-catering world, havıng worked as head chef on both motor and sailıng yachts. She and Gareth have worked together as a husband and wife team on private and charter yachts for 9 years. She joined ‘Shindela’ during the build in 2011.
Liz thrives on being inventive with locally sourced ingredients and enjoys learning from the chefs she meets on her travels throughout the world. She periodically improves her skills at various cookery schools including Ashburton Cookery School. She is very approachable and will be happy to cater for individual tastes and requirements.
Liz is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys trail running, tennis, skiing and snowboarding and loves to share stories. She has also been known to share some of her chef secrets for any guest who likes to get hands on in the galley!
