On 22–23 February 2026, the inaugural Sydney Charter Show brought together leading charter yachts, brokers and industry professionals at Jones Bay Superyacht Marina. Hosted by Superyacht Australia, the invitation-only showcase marks a significant milestone for the superyacht charter market across Australia and the South Pacific. As an internationally operating charter company registered also in Australia, our team attended the first edition of the show to assess fleet quality, market structure and emerging opportunities in the region.

A New Premier Superyacht Charter Event in the Asia-Pacific

The Sydney Charter Show has created a dedicated platform focused exclusively on the superyacht charter sector. Positioned against the iconic backdrop of Sydney Harbour, the event reinforces Australia’s status as home to the largest charter fleet in the Asia-Pacific region. The two-day program (22–23 February 2026) was followed by the Australian Superyacht Conference on 24 February, addressing regulatory developments, foreign-flag yacht operations and emerging charter markets.

Fleet Overview: Charter Yachts on Display

The inaugural edition featured 15 charter yachts, most of which were motor yachts as well as one classic sailing yacht and one large motor sailor. Two of the yachts are currently offered for sale while remaining active on the charter market. All participating vessels operate commercially. Three yachts were newly delivered, reflecting continued investment in the region’s charter fleet. Notably, one yacht was constructed by Vicem Shipyard in Turkey before being delivered to Australia — a strong example of international collaboration in yacht building and charter deployment. Alongside the newer builds, several established yachts demonstrated exceptional maintenance standards. One 10-year-old yacht in particular stood out for her immaculate presentation, proving that long-term charter success is defined by management, refit strategy and operational care.

Charter Model in Sydney: Strong Day Charter Market

A key observation from the show is the strength of the Sydney day charter model.

Most yachts operate:

  • Minimum 4-hour charters
  • Hourly-based bookings
  • Full-day experiences
  • Overnight or short multi-day charters

Approximately half of the fleet is permanently based in Sydney, focusing exclusively on the local market. This structure provides consistent revenue streams through corporate events, private celebrations and harbour cruising experiences.

South Pacific & Great Barrier Reef Cruising Grounds

Beyond Sydney, many yachts reposition seasonally to cruise further north toward - to the Great Barrier Reef, Hamilton Island, Brisbane, and the wider Queensland coastline Longer itineraries also extend into the South Pacific, including destinations such as Fiji, Tonga and French Polynesia. These charters focus on multi-day cruising, diving, snorkeling and remote island exploration — a very different structure compared to the traditional Mediterranean weekly charter model.

Why the Sydney Charter Show Matters

  • Largest Charter Fleet in Asia-Pacific: Australia hosts the region’s most extensive superyacht charter fleet, making Sydney the natural industry hub.
  • Global Industry Platform: The event connects yacht owners, managers, captains, brokers and high-net-worth clients.
  • Emerging Market Insights: Discussions during the show and conference highlighted foreign-flag yacht operations, regulatory frameworks and growth potential across Australia and the South Pacific.
  • Positioning Sydney as a Global Charter Destination: The event strengthens Sydney Harbour’s reputation as a premier international charter base.

Our Perspective

Attending the first-ever Sydney Charter Show offered valuable insight into a charter ecosystem that differs significantly from the Mediterranean structure. The strong day-charter revenue model, combined with seasonal repositioning to the Great Barrier Reef and the Pacific Islands, creates a hybrid market with both short-term and expedition-style opportunities. As a company operating internationally and in Australia, we see clear potential in the continued development of this region as a global charter destination. The inaugural Sydney Charter Show may have been modest in scale, but the quality of presentation, fleet standards and industry engagement signal strong growth ahead for Australia and the South Pacific on the world superyacht stage.
