While it is easy to get lost in the beauty and uniqueness of Dubrovnik, it is important to remember there are other gorgeous sites to see in Southern Dalmatia. They won’t be so stunning as the Pearl of Adriatic, that is true, however, each of the places is worth of visiting.

Usually, travelers who come to visit Dubrovnik with a yacht, drop the anchor next to a small piece of land few kilometers away from the old town gates. It is an island called Lokrum which looks like a small green oasis surrounded with the blues of Adriatic. It can be quite an interesting short trip to Lorkum if you like unspoilt nature, exotic birds and legends.

Yes, they believe that the island of Lokrum is cursed, that’s why for centuries no humans can live on the island. Flora and fauna are its only residents. Locals will tell a story that the land was cursed by monks of Benedictine Monastery which was built here in the 13th century. The monks were forced to leave the island centuries ago because some nobles wanted to possess the island. Before leaving, people of faith put a spell on the island saying that after them no one would ever be able to own the island and to live there.

Sure, it could be just some random legend to attract attention of tourists, however indeed no one lives there, and those who tried to own the island, couldn’t manage doing so.

Nevertheless, Lokrum is a peaceful place with amazing nature. Here you can have a nice walk around the botanical gardens which was planted in the 19th century, visit the remains of the monastery, take photographs of some exotic plants and greet the only residents of the island - peacocks and rabbits.

After paying a short visit to the island, you have infinite choices what to do next. Either you ask your captain to sail off Dubrovnik and find a beautiful bay where it’s fine to enjoy swimming, doing water sports activities and just enjoy the trip, or you could spend more time around Dubrovnik and meet sunset on top of the Srd Hill, if you haven’t done so yet.

It is indeed the best spot for saying goodbye to the day full of adventures and be excited of meeting a new one. You will reach the top by a cable car service. The view includes from one side - gorgeous hills and mountains of the mainland, from another one - the divine coast of Dubrovnik and Elaphiti Islands. Have some cocktails or a little dinner in the restaurant by the edge and enjoy “al fresco” experience.
